Authorities arrested and charged suspected Scattered Spider members in the UK and the US, including a 17-year-old who surrendered in Las Vegas and was later released to his parents under court restrictions. The Las Vegas case is tied to Vegas casino cyberattacks that occurred between August and October 2023, when MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment were hit and BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware was deployed. Prosecutors say the teen faces charges including extortion and unlawful acts regarding computers, and they are seeking additional charges and adult-court treatment. The case matters because it shows continued cross-border law-enforcement pressure on Scattered Spider for major extortion-driven intrusions.

Scattered Spider member surrenders in Las Vegas amid UK arrests
Initial DisclosureA suspected Scattered Spider member turned himself over to authorities at Clark County Juvenile Detention Center in Las Vegas, where the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Las Vegas Cyber Task Force had identified him as a teenage male and he was booked on charges including three counts of obtaining and using the personally identifiable information (PII) of another person to either harm or impersonate them, one count of extortion, one count of conspiracy to commit extortion, and one count of unlawful acts regarding computers. In the same reporting window, two other suspected members, Thalha Jubair and Owen Flowers, were arrested and charged in the UK after an investigation into the hack of Transport for London (TfL), while the Clark County District Attorney's Office sought transfer of the juvenile to the criminal division. The group also claimed it was shutting down operations through a farewell letter posted on BreachForums and the "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters" public Telegram channel.
