Microsoft Windows October 2025 updates trigger BitLocker recovery startup issues
Service Disruption
Summary

Show ▼
Microsoft's October 2025 Windows security updates are causing some Intel devices to enter BitLocker recovery during startup or restart, briefly blocking normal access. The issue affects Windows 11 24H2, Windows 11 25H2, and Windows 10 22H2. Users may need to enter the recovery key once before the device boots normally again, and administrators can use Known Issue Rollback (KIR) as a mitigation.

Microsoft warns October 2025 Windows updates can trigger BitLocker recovery
Initial DisclosureMicrosoft warned that some Intel devices with Connected Standby/Modern Standby running Windows 11 24H2, Windows 11 25H2, or Windows 10 22H2 may boot into BitLocker recovery after installing Windows Updates released on or after October 14, 2025. Affected users may need to enter the recovery key once before the device boots normally again, and IT administrators can mitigate the issue with a group policy delivered via Known Issue Rollback (KIR).
