US CISOs are facing a sustained rise in workload pressure as AI adoption pushes the role toward more business-facing leadership, increasing burnout risk and the chance of a governance gap. In a survey of 300 CISOs and equivalents, 45% reported working 11+ extra hours per week and 20% said they work 16+ extra hours weekly. The trend matters because the cohort is simultaneously being asked to improve communication, interpersonal, and business skills while still handling escalating security demands.
