UK announces Online Crime Centre to disrupt cyber-fraud
Initial DisclosureThe UK Home Office and the National Crime Agency announced a new Online Crime Centre under the UK government’s expanded anti-fraud strategy to disrupt cyber-criminal operations at the source, including overseas scam compounds. The planned unit is set to begin work in April and will target the accounts, websites and phone numbers used by cyber-criminal gangs, while also supporting AI-based fraud detection, scam-baiting chatbots and the blocking of scam texts, freezing of criminal accounts and removal of scam social media accounts.
