FBI warns of surging cyber-enabled cargo theft
Initial DisclosureThe FBI issued a public service announcement warning the transportation and logistics industry that cyber-enabled cargo theft is surging across the United States and Canada, with estimated 2025 losses nearing $725 million and confirmed incidents up 18 percent last year. The bureau said attackers have used spoofed emails and fake web links since at least 2024 to compromise freight brokers and carriers, post fraudulent load-board listings, impersonate legitimate companies, reroute shipments, and in some cases demand ransoms, and it urged secondary-channel verification, multi-factor authentication, and detailed vehicle and driver records.
