Human Security details the FunFoneFarm phone-farm scam economy
Initial DisclosureOn July 28, Human Security’s Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team bought an off-the-shelf phone farm kit and reverse engineered its hardware and software, describing FunFoneFarm as an AI-enhanced scam ecosystem that supports fake account creation, account takeover (ATO), romance fraud, and investment fraud. The researchers said the stack combines mainstream-marketplace hardware, cloud phone services, orchestration software, and an AI layer that writes automation scripts and manages scam conversations, and estimated that a scam outfit could get started for $2,790 per month. They also cited FBI figures that romance fraud alone cost victims nearly $930m last year.
