Initial DisclosureInterpol's African Cyberthreat Assessment Report 2026 says AI-driven cybercrime now makes up 55% of reported digital crime in Africa, with AI-powered scams, social engineering, and credential harvesting pushing losses from $192m in 2024 to $484m last year. The assessment also cites 600,000 sextortion attempts, more convincing BEC fraud attempts using AI-generated emails, synthetic identities bypassing biometric checks, AI-driven ransomware such as Qilin and Akira targeting healthcare systems, power utilities, and educational institutions, and scam centers reported by 72% of participating countries.
