Forescout finds healthcare devices are not ready for post-quantum cryptography

    Technical Analysis Update

Forescout found that many medical devices across more than 50 healthcare delivery organizations cannot be upgraded to post-quantum cryptography, leaving sensitive healthcare data exposed to future quantum-enabled attacks. In an analysis of more than 2.5 million devices, only 6% of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices and 16% of medical operational technology (OT) devices used Secure Shell (SSH) implementations capable of supporting a transition to PQC, and only 31% of exposed systems supported TLS 1.3. The assessment highlights internet-exposed systems holding electronic medical records (EMRs) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACs), warns of harvest-now, decrypt-later risk, and urges healthcare organizations to begin PQC migration planning and improve visibility into the assets and data they handle.
