The RCMP shut down TradeOgre and seized more than $40 million in crypto, escalating a cybercrime-linked case and marking Canada’s largest asset seizure. RCMP shuts down TradeOgre and seizes crypto

    Initial Disclosure

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police shut down the TradeOgre cryptocurrency exchange in Canada and seized more than $40 million believed to originate from criminal activities. The RCMP said the Money Laundering Investigative Team (MLIT) began investigating TradeOgre in June 2024 after a tip from Europol, and investigators said the platform failed to register with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as a money services business, did not identify its clients, and may have been used by cybercriminals to launder money through privacy-focused trading and Monero support.
