French Ministry of Finance discloses FICOBA compromise
Initial DisclosureThe French Ministry of Finance disclosed a cybersecurity incident affecting FICOBA, France’s state-managed bank account registry operated by DGFiP, after a threat actor used credentials stolen from a civil servant with access to the interministerial information sharing platform in late January and reached part of the database. The exposed data included bank-account details, account-holder identity data, physical addresses, and some taxpayer identification numbers, with about 1.2 million user accounts affected. The ministry said it restricted the threat actor’s access immediately after detecting the incident, informed CNIL and banking institutions, planned individual notifications for affected users, and worked with DGFiP and ANSSI to restore FICOBA with enhanced security.
