AI adoption is outpacing formal governance, leaving organizations more exposed to Shadow AI, data leakage, and AI-enabled phishing. A May 5 survey of 3,400 global digital trust professionals found 90% believe employees use AI tools, but only 38% report a comprehensive AI policy and 25% have none. The readiness gap extends to incident response, with 56% unsure how long it would take to halt an AI system after a security incident.

ISACA publishes AI governance gap findings
Initial DisclosureISACA’s May 5, 2026 AI Pulse Poll found that AI use is already widespread across global organizations, but formal safeguards lag behind. Among 3,400 digital trust professionals surveyed, 90% said employees use AI tools, 38% reported a formal comprehensive AI policy, 25% said their organization has no AI policy, 56% did not know how long it would take to halt an AI system after a security incident, and only 20% said there is a process to shut down or override AI systems. Respondents also said Shadow AI, AI-powered phishing and social engineering, and harder authentication of digital information are making cyber risk more difficult to manage.
