Initial DisclosureCybersecurity agencies from 12 countries issued a joint advisory on 2026-07-13 warning that Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Center 16 cyber actors are actively targeting vulnerable routers worldwide by scanning for devices that still use default or weak Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) passwords and community strings. The advisory urged defenders to move to SNMPv3, noted that the threat actor also exploits CVE-2018-0171 on Cisco devices, and highlighted the risk of router configuration theft and exfiltration via TFTP.
